I don’t bully the weak Up until yesterday But when I woke up this morning How have I fallen in love If you’re afraid of heartbreak Somehow I’ve had a change of heart Up until just now But now suddenly I’m irritated There are so many other guys Romance is so unfair I don’t bully the weak Up until yesterday I don’t bully the weak Somehow I’ve had a change of heart Up until just now From today onwards |
Despite being set to very generic-sounding music, this song is worth noting for its psychological realism in depicting a classic female tsundere. That is, if tsunderes were psychologically real in any way, then this would be exactly how they'd act... Ever wonder what goes on in a tsundere's mind? It's not so much what is said, but what is left unsaid.
Straight off the bat, she insults her male love interest as "weak". This is clearly to cover up the fact that she is the one who has "lost", having given in to her feelings towards him. But despite all her statements that she's won and he's lost, deep down she knows that it's really the other way round, and that's what makes her irritated and defiant. Dead giveaway. Typical tsundere reaction.
She then goes one step further and blames him outright for her loss - I mean, her win. Calling herself naïve and all. And where is this weak but devious guy in all this? He's just ignorantly going about his own business! This is clear from the fact that she watches him from afar. Well, she's not actually delusional (on top of having abusive and sadistic tendencies). This is just how she desperately tries to rationalize her feelings in her own mind. Or so we hope.
For all that, she's surprisingly noble, though. She valiantly resolves to act on her feelings and is mentally resigned to the possibility of getting rejected. She believes that one must love all out, not love in fear of heartbreak. Of course, all this is wrapped underneath her confrontational tone and desire to physically clobber (or mentally torture, either which way) the poor guy. She is a tsundere, after all.
On a side translation note, I decided to do away with the echoes because it might be confusing. Some echoes are pure repeats, whereas others are not. In either case they're more of a musical feature than a linguistic one.
